User
Users in dCommerce - people with sign-in access to the admin console or customer portal, and how they relate to contacts and roles.
A user is a person with sign-in access. A role describes what that user can see and do once signed in.
In summary
dCommerce supports two broad kinds of user:
- System users - your team, signing in to the admin console
- Customer users - people on a trade account, signing in to the customer portal (and the customer mobile app where enabled)
A customer user is always based on a contact on an organisation. Contact first, access second. Many contacts never become users - they still appear on orders when staff place those orders in the admin console.
Roles keep merchant administration and trade-customer ordering apart, and allow finer control within each group. Capability detail lives under User Access Control.
How it connects
- Customer users act for one or more organisations and are linked from a contact
- System users operate the platform; they can raise orders and assign contacts who have no login
- Roles gate capabilities across channels such as the admin console and customer portal
- Capability detail: Users, User Access Control
