Users
Users are the people who sign in to dCommerce. The platform distinguishes between people who operate the merchant’s business and people who order as trade customers. Customer users are created from contacts on an organisation - contact first, access second.
What this capability covers
- System users who administer catalogue, organisations, pricing, and orders in the admin console
- Customer users who sign in to the customer portal and, where enabled, the customer mobile app
- Multiple users per customer organisation
- Linking people to the organisations they are allowed to act for
Contacts do not need a login. Staff can place orders in the admin console and associate a contact who never signs in. Portal access is granted only when you turn a contact into a user.
The guest storefront is for visitors who are not signed in. Customer users belong on the customer portal.
Access depth is governed by roles; see User Access Control.
Why it matters
Wholesale accounts are shared workplaces. Purchasing, warehouse contacts, and finance contacts may all need different levels of visibility - and some never need a login at all. Supporting multiple users per organisation reduces shared passwords and keeps activity attributable to a person.
Sign-in and access
dCommerce provides separate sign-in experiences for system users (admin console) and customer users (customer portal, and customer mobile app where enabled).
Sign-in uses familiar email-and-password access, with email verification and password reset built in. Two-factor authentication is available when you want stronger account protection. Inactive users and inactive customer organisations are prevented from ordering, so commercial and access rules stay enforced.
For how customer users are brought onto the platform, see How customer organisations are set up on the Customers page.
