Contact
Contacts on customer organisations in dCommerce - named people associated with orders, with or without sign-in access.
A contact is a named person on a customer organisation. In dCommerce, a contact’s primary purpose is to be associated with an order.
In summary
Contacts do not need sign-in access. A system user in the admin console can create an order for an organisation and assign a contact - even when that person never logs into the customer portal.
Typical contacts include buyers, accounts payable, or warehouse receivers. What they share is a place on the account record, not a login.
Becoming a user is a separate step. A contact record is required before someone on that organisation can be given customer-portal (or mobile) access. Not every contact becomes a user.
How it connects
- Contacts belong to an organisation
- Orders reference a contact for who the order is associated with - without requiring that contact to have access
- Customer-portal users are created from contacts; the contact is about the commercial person, the user is about authentication
